Optoma has unveiled a new short throw projector, the UHD35STx. The gadget follows in the footsteps of the UHD35, launched last year. The company has billed the new device as a true 4K UHD projector for a home cinema or gaming. The UHD35STx is a DLP projector with a 0.5:1 throw ratio, enabling it to produce a 100-in (~254 cm) wide image from under 4 ft (~1.2 m) away; the largest image you can create is 300-in (~762 cm) across.

As with its predecessor, the projector has a high brightness of up to 3,600 lumens, allowing you to see the picture clearly in a brighter room, and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. With support for HDR10 and HLG HDR, Optoma claims that the projector produces realistic colors, covering the Rec.709 color gamut. In Gaming Mode, the Optoma gadget has a 4.2 ms response time with a 1080p 240 Hz resolution or 16 ms with a 4K 60 Hz image.

You can connect to the projector via HDMI and USB-A ports. Plus, the gadget has a built-in 10 W speaker and typically generates 24 dB of noise when running. The device weighs 5.6 lbs (~2.5 kg) and measures 12.4 x 10.6 x 4.7-in (~31.5 x 27.0 x 11.8 cm), making it somewhat portable, and it comes with a backlit remote. You can buy the Optoma UHD35STx projector for US$1,749.
